Using Aloe, Olive Oil And Other Ingredients In Handmade Soaps

By Shannon Dunne

There are a variety of methods and ingredients that people will put in handmade soaps, to make the products leave the skin clean, soft, healthy and smelling good. Using natural ingredients, like aloe and olive oil, reduces the chances that people will have allergic reactions, which can be both irritating and painful to the skin.

One of these elements is aloe. Aloe has long been known as one of the best ingredients to add to soap because it has a lot of the agents that skin needs to be healthy. It is also wonderful for treating insect bites, rashes and burns. Parents find this ingredient works to help prevent infections when their children get hurt while playing.

Another popular ingredient for soap made at home is olive oil. This ingredient is good for the inside and outside of the body. Skin, hair and internal organs are strengthened and healed by its effects. It creates a soft and silky appearance, as well.

Chamomile is another ingredient added to soap. It has been used for centuries to treat rashes and burns and is known for its pleasant aroma. Many skin lotions and bath beads contain chamomile.

A somewhat unknown ingredient for soap is Basil. This ingredient is excellent for treating bouts with acne and skin blemishes. It is a good alternative to using the sometimes harsh chemicals that can be found in over the counter acne medications.

Natural soap is better for the skin. Exfoliants are excellent for handmade soaps because they strip off any excess residue that is left from other kinds of soap and dirt that is left behind. It leaves the skin feeling fresh and renewed. One of the exfoliants people use is oatmeal. When making these at home, do a little research to find out what ingredients will do what you are looking for. This can be moisturizing, clearing up blemishes or removing makeup.
